Research summary

Contributions span repeated editions of the Particle Data Group Review of Particle Physics. The 2018, 2020, 2022 and 2024 editions list, evaluate and average measured properties of gauge bosons, the Higgs, leptons, quarks, mesons and baryons, drawing on thousands of new measurements per cycle (for example, 2,873 measurements from 758 papers in 2018; 3,324 from 878 papers in 2020; 2,143 from 709 papers in 2022; 2,717 from 869 papers in 2024) and updating searches for supersymmetric particles, heavy bosons, axions, dark photons and other hypothetical states [1][3][2][4]. Work on hadron collider physics includes a measurement of J/psi meson and b-hadron production cross sections in p-bar p collisions at sqrt(s)=1960 GeV with 39.7 pb-1 of CDF Run II data [5], the observation of the narrow X(3872) -> J/psi pi+ pi- state in 220 pb-1 of CDF II data with mass 3871.3 +/- 0.7 (stat) +/- 0.4 (syst) MeV/c^2 [6], the earlier observation of the B_c meson via B_c -> J/psi l nu in 1.8 TeV p-bar p collisions at CDF [9], and the high-precision W boson mass measurement with the CDF II detector that is in significant tension with the Standard Model expectation [7]. The Higgs Physics at the HL-LHC and HE-LHC report assesses how the larger datasets of the high-luminosity and higher-energy upgrades will refine Higgs property measurements, electroweak symmetry breaking studies and searches for physics beyond the Standard Model six years after the 2012 ATLAS and CMS discovery [8].
